Eight-month-old babies aren't old enough to do much, but thanks to all the technoloy we have at our fingertips these days, one of the things they can do is book car rentals.
One Minnesota family nearly learned the hard way when their infant son completed a $609 car rental purchase on Priceline last month, according to CBS Minnesota.
"He hit the enter button and booked our rental car," said Mandy Ellingson of Big Lake, Minnesota. "He bought us a $609 minivan for our vacation."
Ellingson said her son Daniel was sitting on her lap while she was shopping for car rentals online back on March 9, and that's when he completed the purchase. Unfortunately, at the same time, Ellingson was on the phone with her in-laws, who had just found a better deal.
The 27-year-old teacher described the gut-wrenching realization that her son had confirmed the booking as a "complete shock."
"I thought, 'Did he really just do that?' It was that shocked feeling, like, I can't believe it happened," said Ellingson. "So that's why we got on the phone right away and tried to fix it."
Despite Daniel's parents' efforts to remedy the situation and get a refund, Priceline made it clear that the booking was "non-refundable."
It wasn't until the family recently told their story to the local CBS affiliate when Priceline reached out earlier this week. The result was a "one-time exception" and a full refund after the company acknowledged the "unusual situation," according to ABCNews.com.
The Ellingsons are currently planning a vacation in Hawaii this June, and if Daniel has his way, they'll be traversing the Pacific in a minivan this summer.
