Rail travel in Europe is hotter than ever - and the popular European rail passes are now even more valuable, according to Rail Europe Inc., with the return of the French National Railway (SNCF) to the Eurail Select Pass and a new anniversary sale for the Swiss Pass.
Indeed, after a short hiatus, French National Railway (SNCF) will once again be part of the Eurail Select Pass starting April 1. Travelers can now choose rail travel on the national rail networks of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and over a dozen more. The French National Railway withdrew from the Eurail Select Pass in 2013 due to declining revenues, but now hopes to welcome more visitors to France. Prices begin at $520 subject to change to change.
Beyond the return of France to the Eurail Select Pass, Rail Europe, together with Switzerland Tourism and Swiss Travel System, are offering 25 percent off four- and eight-day Swiss Passes to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Swiss Pass. Through May 20, travelers receive a 25 percent discount on a first-class four- or eight-day consecutive day Swiss Pass with the purchase of the Swiss Pass Promotion. As part of the pass, travelers get access to Switzerland's most scenic routes, such as the Bernina Express, Glacier Express, GoldenPass Line or Wilhelm Tell Express, and public transportation in more than 75 Swiss cities.
The special anniversary offer is available through May 20 for travel April 1 to May 31, and is priced starting at $370 for a four-day consecutive first-class Swiss Pass. Swiss Pass bonuses include a 50 percent price reduction off most mountain railways, free admission to more than 470 museums in Switzerland and the Swiss Family Card.
