Silvercar, the car rental company started by a group of friends who had a frustrating experience trying to rent a vehicle during a guys weekend trip, will launch in its ninth market next month.
The company starts service in Fort Lauderdale on May 15.
Users will be able to reserve their Silvercars via the app (available for iPhone and Android) and website immediately.
Silvercar is currently available at eight airport locations around the country including Austin (AUS), Dallas (DAL and DFW), Denver (DEN), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Phoenix (PHX), and San Francisco (SFO), with plans to roll out in five additional markets this year, including Chicago.
Users who book a Ft. Lauderdale Silvercar reservation on May 15 (official launch day) will receive 15 percent off their entire rental. Use code FLL15 to redeem.
Founded in March 2012, Silvercar is an Austin-based company founded almost by mistake. Luke Schneider and friends experienced difficulty in renting a car.
“The result of one too many frustrations at the rental counter,” Schneider told Fox News.
Schneider said some major problems in the industry are never knowing what kind of car you’re going to get, and the long lines, hassles and up-sells.
“Silvercar customers skip the lane, they always get an Audi A4 and they pay the same as they would for a midsize car at a competitor,” he said.
Silvercar rentals average between $59 and $89 per day.
