On Wednesday, car-sharing network Zipcar announced the results of the company’s American Summertime Driving survey, which found that people in the United States love to hit the road on summer vacation.
According to Zipcar, 33 percent of Americans still like driving with their family the most during vacation, while 19 percent like traveling with friends even more. Another 18 percent of responders like riding solo in the morning, and 13 percent enjoy a sunset cruise the most.
While summer vacation is usually associated with the beach, 41 percent of those surveyed preferred driving a SUV while exploring the woods or mountains, and only 32 percent wanted to take a convertible to the beach or lake.
For the rest of the responders, 14 percent would rather drive a luxury car around town, and 12 percent prefer to use a compact car while exploring the city.
Another surprising result from the survey had to do with driving with the windows up or down. Over 25 percent of the people who took part in the study leave their windows down all year long, but another 20 percent leave their windows up all year. The rest of the responders let the weather depict their decision.
Men and women also responded in different ways to the study, with 35 percent of men wanting to cruise through back roads with no destination, and 34 percent of women wanting to drive along the beach with a warm breeze.
