Boutique cruise line Azamara Club Cruises promotes and delivers an extreme focus on destinations. The company’s two comparatively small 30,277-ton twin ships sail the world over, delivering 694 passengers to places larger vessels cannot go.
Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) pulls its similarly well-traveled clients from a similar demographic, paving every step of the way with seamless travel experiences, also the world over.
With each held in high regard, joining forces might end up producing a perfect storm of destination immersion.
Recently Azamara revealed a new portfolio of 75 unique tours for 2016 in Australia and New Zealand, all to be operated by Abercrombie & Kent. It’s not the first time A&K has operated tours for a cruise line, but this partnership is a truly unique one that could redefine what cruise lines do with passengers ashore.
After traveling with A&K on a Connections river cruise in Germany and then on a Signature trip through Egypt with a Jordan extension, one fact is perfectly clear: They know what they are doing on the ground and it’s all accomplished with an element of luxury.
After two sailings with Azamara Club Cruises this year — one in the Greek islands and another in Russia and The Baltics — I’m convinced that they know what they are doing as well when it comes to destinations.
Put the two together and something amazing is sure to happen.
Standard cruise ship shore tours tap the expertise of local vendors that are vetted carefully, their tours planned and verified in advance, then checked up on throughout the sailing season.
Perhaps as a result of Azamara’s extreme destination focus, other cruise lines have followed the lead, adding more depth and personal contact with the places they visit. So what does Azamara do to break away from the pack?
Turning signature parts of the Azamara experience over to A&K will align the two top-rated travel companies in a way never done before. Azamara’s Insider Access immersion into local daily lifestyles, after sunset Nights and Cool Places tours and once-per-voyage AzAmazing Evenings that feature a night of fabulous local cultural entertainment are a great start to destination-focused cruise travel.
Sharing their singular service and luxury amenities with travelers, Abercrombie & Kent will help Azamara make a big splash on its first season in Australia and New Zealand. Leaving Azamara to focus on their reputation of excellence at sea, A&K hopes to bring the real Australia to life in a way no other cruise line has ever attempted.
If all goes as planned, look for the bar to be raised yet again on what cruise passengers are able to do off-ship.
