Carnival Corp. Hits The Airwaves With Three Original TV Shows

In an unprecedented marketing move, Carnival Corporation is introducing three television shows for major networks to air beginning Oct.1, 2016 on ABC, NBC and The CW. The goal is simple: to utilize the broadh reach of network television to promote cruising and its 10 lines.

All three programs will air on Saturday mornings with an impressive 80 individual episodes scheduled across a 12 month period, and the shows are hosted by personalities to match. On ABC will be “Ocean Treks with Jeff Corwin,” on NBC, “The Voyager with Josh Garcia” and on The CW, “Vacation Creation” hosted by “In Living Color” star and comedian Tommy Davidson and YouTube celebrity Andrea Feczko.

The shows will also help dispel outdated myths about cruising and expose a much broader consumer audience to why cruising is the fastest growing segment of the vacation industry.”

No longer only primetime for cartoons, Saturday mornings are now considered ideal for family-friendly lifestyle programming, making them the perfect period to extensively feature Carnival Cruise Line, Fathom, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard, P&O Cruises (Australia) and P&O Cruises (UK).

When asked how it differs from previous product placement and televised endeavors, John Padgett, chief experience and innovation officer for Carnival Corporation, explained, “While there have been and are other travel-related shows, we are confident that with almost 80 original episodes that will rotate over a span of the next 12 months, the new experiential series will use compelling and authentic storytelling to not only entertain, but educate and inspire viewers to travel the world specifically through cruising.

“With the unprecedented diversity of families, ports, stories and ships for viewers to connect with, we’re confident that we will expose a much broader and inclusive consumer audience to the pleasures of cruising, increase value perceptions and stimulate vacation demand.”

This bold new approach is all part of Carnival Corp.’s broader strategy to expose more people to cruising and have them consider the travel form, especially with the shows launching ahead of the industry WAVE season, when bookings are greater during the first three to four months of the year. The shows also follow the success of the corporation’s first-ever 2015 Super Bowl commercial.

“Ocean Treks with Jeff Corwin”

The first show for ABC will be hosted by Emmy-winner Jeff Corwin and scheduled within the sixth season of the Daytime Emmy-winning three-hour “Weekend Adventure” block. Carnival explained, “The show follows Emmy-winning host Jeff Corwin as he embarks on adventures in some of the world’s most exciting destinations, such as rappelling down cliffs, flight-seeing to glacier landings, mountain climbing in a national park and zip lining through a rainforest.”

The 30-minute program is scheduled to run Saturdays on ABC at 9am beginning on October 1, 2016.

“The Voyager with Josh Garcia”

Also on Saturday mornings will be the NBC program following video journalist and world-traveler Josh Garcia as part of the network’s three-hour “The More You Know” brand block. Carnival said the show will follow the host, “as he goes off the beaten path in fascinating seaside ports to meet locals who share their rich history, life stories and exotic foods, and introduces viewers to the hidden beauty, cultural diversity and amazing flavors native to each destination.”

The 30-minute program is scheduled to run Saturdays on NBC at 9am beginning on October 1, 2016.

“Vacation Creation”

Tommy Davidson and Andrea Feczko will host another Saturday morning show during The CW’s “One Magnificent Morning” block following the giveaway of inspiring dream vacations. Carnival describes the show as going, “beyond the typical travel show by personalizing vacations of a lifetime for couples, individuals and families facing hardship, in need of hope or seeking much-needed time together. From bringing three generations of women together to visit Russia for the first time since their grandmother escaped a war to giving a father whose life was threatened by illness a trip to remember.”

The 30-minute program is scheduled to run Saturdays on The CW at 10:30am beginning on October 1, 2016.

And that’s not even all. There is even a fourth television series that has been produced and is expected to be broadcast on cable mid-week beginning early in 2017.

As to how specific personalities were chosen to lead each show, Padgett said, “During our selection process, we maintained our mission of ‘Connecting People, Places and Cultures with Incredible Experiences.’ We understood that in order to accomplish this it would be necessary to select hosts with relatable personalities that reflect the diversity of our Guests and that viewers from different walks of life could all relate to. All four of our hosts are incredibly charming, compelling story-tellers that have a passion for travel experiences.”

Donald concluded, “This strategy to create original content across multiple media platforms is just one of the innovative approaches we are taking to expand the market for cruise vacations. These programs will show people, in a highly engaging way why, cruising is such a great vacation at an exceptional value.”
