When Carnival Cruise Line's new Carnival Horizon sets sail in spring 2018, it will feature a fresh dining venue: Bonsai Teppanyaki.
The restaurant builds upon the brand's signature sushi selections with even more Asian food options.
"Carnival is all about providing our guests with a wide array of choices and that, of course, includes a seemingly endless array of delicious culinary options," said Christine Duffy, Carnival's president, in a press release. "The new Bonsai Teppanyaki promises to be a wonderful addition to the Carnival Horizon, offering delectable cuisine from the Far East enhanced by show-stopping performances by our talented and engaging chefs."
The 133,500-ton Horizon will still have Bonsai Sushi as well as Bonsai Teppanyaki. Adding to sashimi and roll favorites will be additional Japanese items prepared with visual style at a pair of integrated eight-seat table grills.
Centrally cooked live are appetizers like of Miso Soup; Kabuki Salad with Ginger Dressing; Teppanyaki Shrimp with Soy Butter and Salsa Vinaigrette; Pork Belly Yakitori with Sesame Asparagus Fries and Seaweed Salad; and Spicy Tuna on the Rocks with Onion Sesame Sauce and Den Miso.
Entrees will then continue to Lobster Tail with Yuzu Cream and Citrus Kosho; Filet Mignon with Truffle Salt, Garlic Chips and Champagne Cognac Flambé; Teriyaki Salmon with Savory and Sweet Teriyaki Glaze; Black Cod with Soy Reduction; Shrimp with Young Lettuce and Gyukuro Tea; Shichimi Spiced Grilled Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce; and Grilled Tofu with Vegetables, Yaki Udon, and Teriyaki Anticucho Sauce.
Also available are combo dinners such as filet mignon and shrimp; shrimp and spiced grilled chicken; filet mignon and teriyaki salmon; and filet mignon and lobster tail. Always included are fried rice and stir-fried vegetables.
A Chocolate Bento Box with Green Tea Ice Cream will then be a dessert sendoff.

Reservations are recommended for Bonsai Teppanyaki with its limited capacity, and the restaurant will be open for lunch on sea days and dinner nightly. Prices will be set per person, including all appetizer choices, entree and dessert. Depending on your entree selection, that cost ranges from $18 to $30.
Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki will be located adjacent to one another on the Promenade Deck. The sushi side of the restaurant will be configured as on the Carnival Vista across from the Alchemy bar while the newly enclosed grill section will displace Piano Bar 88 to the opposite side of the ship.
Thus, the Library Bar will swap relative footprints with the piano lounge.
In order to make room for the new configuration, the Horizon deck plan appears to display a narrower library bar than on the Vista and perhaps a slightly smaller piano bar as well.

Also carried over from the Horizon will be the dining venues of Cucina del Capitano, Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Pizza Pirate and Seafood Shack. The SkyRide and IMAX Theatre will again be signature attractions as well as the newly themed Dr. Seuss water park.
The Carnival Horizon's inaugural sailing will depart on April 2, 2018, from Barcelona on a 13-day Mediterranean trip. It will then reposition to the States with a 14-day trans-Atlantic crossing on May 9-23, 2018. The ship will eventually homeport year-round from Miami beginning on September 20, 2018.
