Crystal Cruises has expanded the number of volunteer shore excursions it offers in its “You Care, We Care” program.
This year, its 25th anniversary, Crystal had added three new complimentary “voluntourism” excursions for a total of 16 that let guests help humanitarian and conservation activities of organizations around the world.
For example, one new option in Victoria, British Columbia, lets guests sort food donations and help prepare meals at the Mustard Seed Food Bank. In Dubrovnik, Croatia, travelers can meet residents, take them for a walk, or do gardening chores at Domus Christi, a home that shelters the poor, elderly and infirmed.
In Barcelona, Spain, guests will learn about the Rehabilitation Center’s efforts to helping endangered marine life and participate in a training drill for a rescue of a dolphin stranded on the beach.
In Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, participants will spend time with the children and families of SOS Children’s Village, where abandoned and orphaned children are brought up in a family setting.
“The tremendous response to the ‘You Care, We Care’ program continues to delight us, as our guests are savvy world travelers who relish the type of deeply immersive and authentic cultural education experienced during these excursions,” said Crystal President Edie Rodriguez. “The act of contributing to the world in which we all travel is extremely rewarding — for everyone.”
In all, the “You Care, We Care” Crystal Adventures will be offered on more than two dozen sailings. Through the April 30 “Book Now” deadline, all-inclusive cruise fares start at $2,345 per person.
