Just as Disney Cruise Line first sets sail on its 2017 batch of “Star Wars” Day at Sea voyages, it announces plans for The Force-filled theme cruises to return again in 2018, from January through April.
With the next film in the franchise set to come out on December 15, 2017, that means guests will have the opportunity to watch “Star Wars: Episode VIII” on yet another 15 galactic sailings aboard the Disney Fantasy in the Caribbean next year. Storming the decks and halls as before will be the Jedi, Wookiees, droids and even representatives of the Dark Side during the special day at sea.
“The Force is stronger than ever onboard the Disney Fantasy, and we are excited to bring back ‘Star Wars Day at Sea’ in 2018,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “The popularity of the event over the past two years inspired us to continue immersing our guests in the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy. Everyone, from the youngest Padawan to the most knowledgeable Jedi Master, is invited to enjoy this event of galactic proportions and make memories that will last a lifetime.”
Returning will be meet-and-greet photo opportunities with the likes of Chewbacca, Darth Vader, R2-D2, C-3PO and more as well as the chance to celebrate some guest cosplay in the atrium. Besides “Star Wars: Episode VIII,” all the classic and modern films and television shows, extending to the newly released “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars Rebels,” will be screened. Even refreshments and dinner courses will take on the franchise, and there will be exclusive merchandise available for purchase also.
Children, in particular, will be invited on stage for “Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple” to learn the ways of The Force and face their fears and Darth Vader himself in a lightsaber duel. A bit tamer will also be themed arts and crafts, games and other kids club activities, plus the chance for families to test their “Star Wars” trivia knowledge.
The climax of the day will come in the evening as the “Summon the Force” deck party begins with games, music and dancing before escalating to a grand fireworks display accompanied by all the day’s characters, pyrotechnics, stunts, special effects and, of course, John Williams’ signature score.
Dates for weeklong “Star Wars” Day at Sea cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida in 2018 are as follows to Cozumel, Mexico; Falmouth, Jamaica; Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay: January 6, 20; February 3, 17; March 3, 17, 31; and April 14, 2018. “Star Wars” Day at Sea will also head to Tortola, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay on January 13, 27; February 10, 24; March 10, 24; and April 7, 2018.
