With Cunard Line's Blue Note jazz themed cruise set to debut in a month's time, the cruise line announced Monday that Grammy Award-winner Gregory Porter will join the stellar list of performers.
Recently recognized as the "International Jazz Artist of the Year" by Jazz FM, Porter won a Grammy in 2014 for the best jazz vocal album.
Porter will be accompanied by a handful of talented musicians when the Queen Mary 2 departs on a seven-night trans-Atlantic cruise Oct. 29.
"We are so very pleased to include Gregory Porter in what is an all-star list of venerable jazz musicians and world-class entertainers," president of Cunard North America Richard Meadows said in a statement. "This collaboration with Blue Note will be truly memorable for our guests and will give them a preview of more to come with Blue Note in 2016."
Following next month's week-long voyage, the Queen Mary 2 is scheduled to sail two additional Blue Note jazz themed cruises in 2016. An eight-night westbound trans-Atlantic cruise will depart Aug. 1, 2016, followed by another seven-night eastbound trans-Atlantic voyage departing Oct. 25, 2016.
Musicians set to perform on those 2016 cruises will be announced a later date.
Nonetheless, each of the Blue Note Jazz at Sea cruises will feature nightly performances as well as a question and answer session with record label president Don Was.
In addition to Porter, pianist Robert Glasper, trumpet player Keyon Harrold, saxophonist Marcus Strickland, guitarist Lionel Loueke, bassist Derrick Hodge and drummer Kendrick Scott are among the most celebrated performers set to sail and jam alongside guests this fall.
