Haimark Line Sets Expert Lineup for Saint Laurent

Haimark Line’s new MS Saint Laurent will depart on its maiden voyage May 30, from Montreal, Quebec, to Portland, Maine, with TV journalist Dan Rather onboard.
Several other guest lecturers are scheduled to join the 210-passenger ship as it sails on itineraries to the five Great Lakes, New England colonies and, French-Canadian maritime provinces.
Dan Rather, former CBS News anchor and "60 Minutes" correspondent, has been a broadcast journalist for more than 40 years, breaking the news of the Kennedy assassination, and reporting on the Indian Ocean tsunami. He is on the voyage that will explore Quebec City, Gaspe Peninsula, Prince Edward Island, the reversing rapids of Saint John, and Acadia National Park. Rather will present sessions that include “Fact vs. Fiction in Journalism: Misinformation & the Internet,” and “An Evening with Dan Rather.”
Dr. Bill Cogar, an author, former U.S. Naval Academy professor, and recipient of the 1988 U.S. Navy’s Meritorious Civilian Service Award, will speak about naval and maritime history on the May 30 cruise and the Aug. 28-Sept. 6 voyage from Chicago to Montreal.
Dr. John Odin Jensen, a historian who has participated in more than 50 underwater archaeological investigations of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, will join the Aug. 1-10 voyage from Chicago to Toronto and the Aug. 10-19 cruise from Toronto to Chicago.
Dr. James Robertson, a Civil War expert and Alumni Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech, will speak during the Oct. 30-Nov. 11 voyage from Portland to Nassau, the Bahamas.
Frederick Stonehouse, a teacher of maritime history at Northern Michigan University, is scheduled to sail on the July 14-23 cruise from Chicago to Montreal, and the next cruise back Aug. 1-10.
Bob Tagatz, resident historian and concierge for the Grand Hotel on Michigan’s Mackinac Island, will sail on the Montreal-to-Chicago voyages July 5-14 and Aug. 1-10, as well as the July 14-23 cruise from Chicago to Montreal.
Jay White, a Halifax, Nova Scotia-based historian and former teacher of military history for the Royal Military College of Canada, is cruising on the June 8-17 voyage from Portland to Montreal, and the Oct. 21-30 sailing from Montreal to Portland.
