Fast-growing Haimark Ltd. will launch six-night river voyages on the Peruvian Amazon aboard the new 44-passenger RV Amazon Discovery starting Oct. 11.
The region is said to be home to more than 80,000 species of plants, 500-plus mammals, 1,500 bird species, nearly 400 reptiles, 3,000 freshwater fish and more than 400 amphibians.
The expeditions sail round-trip from Iquitos, Peru. Fares begin at $3,799 per person, double occupancy.
The ship, the ninth in the Haimark Ltd. luxury fleet, will feature guided shore and skiff excursions by expert local, English-speaking naturalists, said Tom Markwell, Haimark managing partner-sales and marketing.
"Given that we're sailing in such an environmentally rich ecosystem, it was essential that the Amazon Discovery truly be one with the region," Markwell said. "Interiors are appointed with sustainably harvested tropical hardwoods, richly textured Peruvian fabrics and local artwork. Hands-on Peruvian cooking demonstrations teach guests the art of preparing dishes from native fruits and vegetables. The Rainforest Spa offers indigenous Yucamani stone massages, soothing avocado wraps and invigorating coffee-cacao scrubs that promote wellness and rejuvenation. We've even partnered with the region's Manatee Rescue Center and the conservationists on Monkey Island to provide unique experiences for guests while also supporting conservation and preservation initiatives in the Peruvian Amazon."
Suites range from 237-square-foot Flora Suites to the 597-square-foot Amazonia Suite. All suites have a telescope.
The ship has an open-air Sun Deck with a plunge pool, the air-conditioned Canopy Lounge, the Andes Dining Room, and signature Rainforest Spa.
The cruise can be packaged with optional pre- and post-cruise extensions such as two nights in Lima, four nights in Machu Picchu, and/or three nights in Cusco and Lake Titicaca.
Haimark Ltd. is a luxury river cruise operator and destination management company that operates in Vietnam and Cambodia, Myanmar, India, and the Peruvian Amazon. Haimark Line, the sister company to Haimark Ltd., operates the 105-cabin Saint Laurent, which launched May 30 and plans to start sailing to Cuba in February.
