Today, Holland America Line took delivery of its first Pinnacle-class cruise ship – the new Netherlands-registered Koningsdam. All the preview videos and overall anticipation has led to a signing ceremony and raising of the Dutch flag before the ship soon leaves the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy for Civitavecchia (Rome).
“Today is a day of celebration for the entire Holland America Line family, and a milestone in our company history. We all share in this proud moment as we welcome Koningsdam to our fleet,” said Orlando Ashford, president, Holland America Line. “Koningsdam looks spectacular, beyond our expectations, and we thank all those involved for their dedication and commitment in bringing our vision to life.”
From Rome, the premium ship will depart on its April 8 Premier Voyage and several Mediterranean sailings before heading to Rotterdam, the Netherlands for its official May 20 naming ceremony.
Beyond that, the 99,500-ton, 2,650-guest ship will homeport in Amsterdam for the summer, sailing to northern Europe and the Baltic. In the fall, the ship will leave for Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a Caribbean season prior to returning to the Mediterranean in September.
The Koningsdam features a number of innovations for the line such as family and solo passenger cabins, the Music Walk entertainment district that was just debuted aboard the Eurodam, the 270-degree LED-wall-encircled World Stage main theater and a host of fresh dining rooms and specialty restaurants. Tastes range from steakhouse favorites at the Pinnacle Grill to fresh seafood at the new Sel de Mer.
