When Carnival Cruise Line's 133,500-ton, 3,934-passenger Vista-class ship hits the waves in 2018, it will do so under the name Carnival Horizon, it was announced today.
The second of the Vista-class vessels, which follows the Carnival Vista, is currently under construction at Fincantieri's shipyard in Marghera, Italy. It is scheduled to be delivered in March 2018.
Fans of the many indoor and outdoor attractions on Vista will find a lot of familiar sights on Horizon, with the ship replicating its predecessor's SkyRide, IMAX Theater, WaterWorks aqua park, Seuss at Sea program and Alchemy Bar. Carnival is also promising a few Horizon-specific innovations, but is playing its cards pretty close to the vest for now.
In addition to the name, Carnival has also announced a new contest on Instagram which could reward cruisers with a stateroom for up to four people when the ship makes its debut. To enter, just post a photo of a horizon, tag @Carnival and add the hashtag #CarnivalHorizonSweepstakes. The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.
"The name Carnival Horizon not only reflects the ship's unique connection with the sea with so many spectacular indoor and outdoor spaces but also the boundless array of options that guests of all ages are sure to enjoy," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, in a statement. "And in keeping with our reputation for bringing fun and enjoyment to our guests and fans, we've come up with an engaging social media contest encouraging the sharing of your favorite Horizon photos," she added.
