Many people take a Caribbean cruise this time of year to escape snow and below-freezing temperatures. Soon, they'll find such wintry conditions in a cruise ship spa.

It's snow joke. Norwegian Cruise Line's next ship, the 4,200-guest Norwegian Escape, will have an elaborate spa with a snow room. The temperature in this room will be a frosty 21 to 32 degrees. And there will be flurries of powdery snow.

What could be the reason for this? "Norwegian Escape's Snow Room offers guests a multitude of health benefits, including stimulating blood circulation in the body and strengthening the immune system," the company said in its press release.

The rest of the Mandara Spa will also have what Norwegian says will be the largest thermal suite at sea with 17 heated loungers, a bubbling hydro-therapy pool, whirlpools, steam room and a dry sauna. The spa also will have a samarium - often described as a temperate mix of sauna and a steam room - and a salt-encrusted room that proponents say mimic European caves that offer respiratory and skin benefits to those who sit in them and inhale the salty air.

The two-deck Mandara Spa also will have two adults-only lounge areas, including one that requires buying an access pass. The Vibe Beach Club is limited to those 18 and over who purchase a pass to enjoy a large hot tub, chaise loungers, a water feature, a full-service bar, water spritzers and chilled towels

Spice H2O (pictured above), located at the back of the ship on deck 17, is a complimentary adult-only enclave with sun loungers surround a huge video screen, two hot tubs, a bar and a grotto with waterfalls. At night, the area transforms into an open-air dance club.

Of course, more than 50 traditional and cutting-edge spa treatments will be offered, including massages and facials as well as salon services - hair, nails, waxing, kid-friendly treatments, acupuncture, teeth whitening and cosmetic medical treatments such as Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Restylane and Perlane. The ship also will offer Thermage CPT treatment, a non-invasive skin rejuvenating therapy that uses radiofrequency to improve the appearance of skin, as well as a barber shop for men.

The fitness center will be furnished with Technogym cardio equipment that can synch to Apple music devices and also have a large, high-def video screen. Classes will include Pilates, body sculpting boot camp, yoga, Zumba, TRX and a high-intensity cardio boxing class.

Currently under construction at Meyer Werft in Germany, the 164,600-ton Norwegian Escape will sail seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami starting on Nov. 14. Other notable features of the ship include a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant and the largest ropes course at sea with two planks and zip tracks that allow guests to soar through the air.
