If you aren't yet familiar with the quaint Louisiana town of St. Francisville, you are missing out on a delightful experience.

This tiny community may be small, but it has plenty of heart and soul. Considered one of the hidden jewels of the state, St. Francisville only has about 2,000 residents and lies along a ridge created during the Glacier Period.

Visiting this town is like immersing yourself in history. And American Queen Steamboat Company wants to help you discover the wonders of St. Francisville. The town is one of the stops on the company's route for a number of river cruises in this region.

It's also a cultural treat, as this community is the quintessential southern belle kind of place and can offer just about everything you envision in a Louisiana locale. Once you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the town, it probably won't surprise you to learn that a number of movies have been filmed here, as this locale makes for the perfect backdrop for a story set in the South.

For such a small town, St. Francisville has quite a bit for visitors to see and do. One of the most popular highlights: touring the historic sites in the region. There are a number of plantation estates and old mansions to explore-you may get the feeling that you have been transported into the set of Gone with the Wind or another classic movie about the South of bygone eras.

You will also want to check out the Afton Villa Gardens, where you can stroll through colorful arrangements of tulips and daffodils as you discover impressive stone statues. Great examples of the beauty of Mother Nature and the talents of human artists!

You might also want to visit Grace Church of West Feliciana Parish, one of the oldest churches in the state. There you will find a beautiful and peaceful old-time cemetery on the grounds.

This site will appeal to history buffs, as well as those who appreciate Gothic Revival architecture. While you are there, you may want to visit some of the other historic churches downtown. Those who want to learn more about the area's history will want to make a point of stopping by the West Feliciana Historical Society Museum, where helpful volunteers can share stories of the town's history and former residents.

And if you travel during the winter holiday season, you may even find yourself serenaded by strolling carolers as you arrive in town. Of course, your voyage with American Queen will also give you the opportunity to visit a number of other intriguing cities in the region, including Memphis, New Orleans, Vicksburg and more. You will have the chance to get a close-up look at some of the most iconic and interesting sites in that area, and will also learn many fascinating things about the region-both offshore and during your time on the ship.

Get a chance to discover this small jewel of Louisiana that you will surely love.
