With Valentine's Day on the horizon, Princess Cruises has requested the help of leading survey firm Wakefield Research to gauge the manner in which Americans view love and how they find it.
"Outlook on Love: The Soulmate Survey" featured 1,000 nationally representative U.S. adults who were polled online as recently as last week.
In addition to several valuable insights, the survey revealed some intriguing figures and perceptions. For instance, 36 percent of respondents admitted that they haven't yet found their soulmate. Interestingly, 71 percent of those in that group don't like their chances of finding their soulmate before the end of 2015.
When it comes to the concept of soulmates being a reality or fantasy, nearly two-thirds (64 percent) think soulmates exist.
A whopping 84 percent of millennials believe there's a soulmate for everyone, while the percentage dips to 76 percent when you poll all adult generations of Americans.
"Princess has long been a leader in love on the high seas, thanks to our heritage as the backdrop of the iconic Love Boat television series," said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises in a statement. "We've always believed that love and connection is an important part of the guest experience onboard our ships and this survey reinforced that people everywhere continue to look for opportunities to make strong, lasting relationships."
Surprisingly, travel (30 percent) is far down the list when it comes to places people search for potential soulmates. Dating sites (43 percent), work (42 percent) and bars and clubs (35 percent) are the most popular sources of love these days based on the survey.
As far as knowing when you've found that special someone, the Soulmate Survey reveals that 65 percent of Americans feel that you know right away when you've met your soulmate.
Plus, considering that 38 percent of Americans say they regret not introducing themselves to their potential soulmate, you'd be wise to trust your gut the next time you find yourself in that situation, whether it's online or aboard a cruise ship.
