The cruise industry found major success in 2015, especially in the United Kingdom and Ireland, as those markets set an all-time record for passenger numbers last year.
Combined, the UK and Ireland hosted 1,789,000 cruise ship passengers in 2015.
According to Adam Coulter of CruiseCritic.com, the UK and Ireland cruise markets are reporting growth of an estimated 145,000 more passengers than the previous year, a 9 percent increase from 2014.

Since 2005, the size of the cruise market has increased by 67 percent, making the growth in the UK and Ireland the highest rate in Europe. Some of the credit for the increase should be given to major increases in cruise ship capacity, and there should be another jump next year as seven new ships will be added to the market.
In addition, passenger departures from the United Kingdom were also up, climbing 47 percent to 840,000 passengers in 2015. British ports also thrived, as more than one million passengers came through a British port during a cruise.
Celestyal Cruises CEO Kerry Anastassiadis released a statement to CruiseCritic.com, saying, “The figures released today confirm the great shape of Europe’s cruise industry. Our opportunities to grow in Europe and elsewhere in the world have virtually no limits.”
