Viking Star: 10 Unique Features of This Brand New Ship
All photos by James Shillinglaw
Viking Star, the new 930-passenger cruise ship, represents Viking Cruises’ first entry into the oceangoing cruise market. The river cruise giant is now committing itself to the oceans with the first of a new fleet of premium ships catering to the 55-plus market.
Viking Star is an innovative vessel that is divided into many different living spaces where guests can read, relax, play games or socialize. It also has a number of unique dining venues, including an Italian specialty restaurant and a gourmet tastings eatery.
Throughout the ship, guests can find references to Viking history and culture, including a special Viking heritage museum and works by Norwegian photographers and artists. The stairwells are even decorated with replicas of the Bayeux Tapestries, which depict the invasion of England by the Normans, who themselves were descendants of the Vikings.
Viking Star will be christened on May 17 in Bergen, Norway, before beginning Baltic cruises, but here are photos of 10 unique features of the new ship from a preview sailing from Lisbon to London this past week.
