Carnival Cruise Line’s newest Carnival Vista is almost here, and now the company has released episode 5 in its video series showcasing the cruise ship’s construction progress. This time around, the focus is on the installation of Vista’s cabins and first IMAX theater at sea ahead of her May 1, 2016 launch.

Host Peter Gonzalez once again takes us to the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy to examine the expert prefabrication of the ship’s 2,473 staterooms before they are slid on to the 130,000-ton vessel. Accommodation varieties include tropical Havana cabins, new Family Harbor cabins and cove balcony staterooms, the most diverse selection on any Carnival ship.

In fact, one of those staterooms is where the special 38’ 2” by 22’ 11” IMAX screen weighing 7,300 pounds must be slipped through in order to be hung in the three-deck-tall space allocated for the 182-seat cinema. How’s that for a lot of fun statistics? This first-ever IMAX theater to be featured on a cruise ship will screen first-run films and classic catalog and documentary titles. It will be part of the ship’s Carnival Multiplex which also comprises the Thrill Theater, multi-dimensional motion film experience, and a dedicated concession stand.

You can view the fascinating video, hosted at my Popular Cruising YouTube channel, below, and stay tuned here for the next episode that will feature the ship’s inner workings.

The Carnival Vista will first set sail on May 1, 2016 for a European season prior to repositioning to New York in November for two 11-day voyages and then year-round Caribbean sailings.
