Princess Cruises has recently unveiled an exciting new lineup of onboard entertainment from the worlds of Broadway and television with “Magic to Do” and “The Voice of the Ocean.” And now both can be previewed in online video right here.
Magic to Do
“Magic to Do” comes from the talented imagination of Stephen Schwartz, the Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-winning composer of “Wicked,” “Pippin” and “Godspell.” The new production premiered on Crown Princess, based at the Port of Los Angeles. The magical musical is set to roll out next on the Ruby Princess and Emerald Princess in late fall.
The show is characterized by an ensemble cast in vibrant costumes performing mysterious illusions and classic Schwartz songs like “Magic to Do” from “Pippin” and “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked,” plus an all new number exclusive to Princess titled “A Little Magic.”
Inspiration for the production came from Schwartz’s own fascination with magic. What’s more, it’s just the first of four new musicals that will be developed for the cruise line over the coming years under Schwartz’s creative supervision.
The Voice of the Ocean
Additionally, television’s “The Voice” singing competition is arriving onboard as “The Voice of the Ocean.” The interactive entertainment offering will give guests (16 years or older) the chance to compete as vocalists, beginning with karaoke auditions.
Fellow guests and the cruise staff will select those talented enough to move on and assign them a Princess musical entertainer or vocalist as their mentor.
They will then practice with the backing of the Princess Band and back-up singers. “The Voice of the Ocean” Live Show, hosted by the cruise director on the last night of the cruise, is where up to nine contestants will perform in front of a live audience of cruise guests and three coaches.
Like on the TV show, the coaches — comprised of guest entertainers, the hotel general manager and/or even the captain — will hear the performances sight unseen before turning in the signature rotating “I Want You” chairs and selecting who they desire for their team. Each team coach will select their favorite, and the remaining three finalists will perform one last time for the champion to be voted in by the passenger audience and awarded a trophy and “The Voice of the Ocean” title.
“The Voice of the Ocean” debuts this month onboard the line’s newest Regal Princess and later on the Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in November.
