Holland America Line is in the process of refreshening its image, and the new Koningsdam is set to spearhead the effort once launched in April 2016. Hosting a new video series previewing the ship is the inaugural cruise director, Johnathan Rogers, a linguistic marvel that speaks up to eight languages and a perfect host for the new endeavor. Having sailed with him before, I can say his self-deprecating wit and honor of the line is just what the company could use right now.
“The process of building a ship is fascinating and fast-paced, and we’re excited to share the latest updates through the ‘Countdown to Koningsdam’ video series,” said Orlando Ashford, Holland America Line’s president. “Anticipation for the ship’s launch is gaining momentum, and through the series we will bring our fans along for the journey as this beautiful ship comes together for launch in April, 2016.”
The first video introduces the Koningsdam’s Hotel Director, Stan Kuppens, as he previews the premium cruise ship’s grand atrium and central sculpture. Of interesting note briefly at the beginning of the video is a quick glimpse at the smokestack which has been installed already with Holland America Line’s existing logo. A new streamlined logo was just unveiled and will surely replace this one before the ship sets sail.
Otherwise, it’s always most fascinating to see the grand scale and progress of such a shipbuilding project at Fincantieri in Marghera, Italy.
Be sure to subscribe, as I’ll continue to post new videos as they are released at my Popular Cruising YouTube channel. Highlights yet to come include a discussion about the ship’s inaugural itineraries with Vice President, Deployment and Tour Marketing Linda Springmann; additional dining room details with Senior Vice President of Guest Experience Product Development Michael Smith; Holland America Line loyalty benefits with Director, Mariner Society Gerald Bernhoft and an exciting preview of World Stage, the ship’s main theater set in the round and encircled by a 270-degree LED screen, with Director of Entertainment Bill Prince.
It’s truly an exciting time for Holland America Line, so stay tuned for more...
