Impossibly emerald waters, lush landscapes and immaculate beaches are only the beginning. The Philippine islands are home to some of the best experiences you'll ever have in Southeast Asia. The people are welcoming, the food is amazing, and the natural attractions are untouched.

There's little wonder why the Philippines is fast becoming the next big holiday destination, and now's the time to start planning your vacation there. To start, here are 8 of the most spectacular resorts in the islands.

Amanpulo

The Palawan islands are among the Philippines' most awe-inspiring spots. They're home to the largest marine reserve in the country, vibrant marine habitats and glorious white sand beaches. During your visit, consider Aman's Amanpulo Resort, which boasts treetop casitas whose design was inspired by the traditional Filipino dwellings. There are also one-bedroom to four-bedroom villas that each come with a private pool, chef, and butler. Rates start at $1,100 a night.

Huma Island Resort & Spa

Also in Palawan is Huma Island Resort & Spa, set in one of the province's northern islands. This luxurious island escape is certainly one of the country's most stunning, with overwater bungalows and beach villas overlooking the South China Sea. There are several terrific onsite restaurants as well. We adore the bungalows best as they sit over pristine coral reefs, and each of them boasts a wooden deck with an oversized Jacuzzi. Rates start at $621 a night.

Atmosphere Resort & Spa

If it's a boutique resort that's more your speed, Atmosphere Resort in Negros Oriental might just be the ticket. It sits along the coast of Dauin, home to some of the most famous dive sites in the country. It also boasts island-luxurious amenities as well as some eco-friendly features and an intimate infinity pool. Best of all, rates come with complimentary buffet breakfast, a 10-minute Indian head massage, and a 20-minute yoga session.Rates start at $230 a night.

El Nido Resorts Lagen Island

Tucked in a lagoon nestled by rock outcroppings and limestone karsts on Lagen Island in Palawan, this intimate resort boasts beach cottages, as well as overwater bungalows and forest suites flourished with beach-modern furnishings. We adore the lagoon, which is perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding; but there are so many other things to do in this eco-sanctuary like hiking through the forest and observing the endemic wildlife. Rates start at $400 a night.

Pearl Farm Beach Resort

Set in Davao's island paradise of Samal, a short boat ride from the city, this lovely beachfront resort exudes southern Philippine traditions and appeal. It used to be a thriving pearl farm, but is now a favorite among folks vacationing in the country's southernmost major island. Accommodation types include hilltop rooms and beach houses, but we prefer the Malipano Villas that are set and separated on a smaller, more exclusive island. Rates start at $137 a night.

Shangri-La's Boracay Resort & Spa

No Philippine list is complete without Boracay, which is arguably the most famous resort area in the country. There are many resorts on the island but none are more splendid than Shangri-La's Boracay Resort & Spa. This property looks as if it's simply been carved out of the coast. There are several pools on property. However, if you have the budget, book a loft villa, which comes with its own private infinity pool. Rates start at $300 a night.

Plantation Bay Resort & Spa

Plantation Bay's colonial-style design and architecture may lend to its low-key vibe, but don't let that fool you. This resort just outside of Cebu City provides exceptional service, excellent food, and a great spa. It even has its own private lagoon where guests can kayak and paddleboard as well as a pool with water slides. Get a Water's Edge Room, which gives you direct access to the water. Rates start at $160 a night.

Misibis Bay Cagraray Island

Not far from Mayon Volcano, an active stratovolcano famed for its "perfect" conical shape, the beach resort of Misibis Bay features luxurious modern rooms with traces of East Asian design, a beautiful lagoon pool as well as an infinity pool overlooking the beach, and even an amphitheater with a view. There's also a lovely spa that offers traditional Filipino massages. During your stay, do visit the volcano and its neighboring natural park. Rates start at $240 a night.
