WGNO’s Travel Girl Stephanie Oswald sets out by kayak to help travelers beat the heat and this time, she’s setting out on a kayak.
Heading into a swamp may not seem like the coolest thing to do on a hot summer’s day, but she is at the ready with a few reasons why it’s a great idea.
First on the list: nature. While she says that you can sometimes hear the roar of highway traffic, most of the time, it’s drowned out by the “chorus of cicadas.”
Next, there’s a lot to learn along the way. Discover how the Pearl River got its name and why the brown water isn’t actually “dirty.” As well as see some poignant reminders of how Mother Nature can leave its mark along the landscape.
These swamps are endangered and are a threatened ecology. The landscapes are slowly disappearing, with turtles and cypress trees that are going away. So, explorers, head out now to gain a new appreciation of the Louisiana swamp.
