If you’re thinking live jazz, crawfish boils and fresh-from-the-fryer beignets sound like the perfect summer trifecta, you’re probably not alone. In 2016, New Orleans welcomed just shy of 10.5 million visitors, its highest number of inbound travelers since the city battled Hurricane Katrina.
And while New Orleans is a city known for its historic charms, there are a lot of new things to see and do. Case in point, the city will welcome a gleaming new airport terminal in 2018.
For travel agents thinking now might be a good time to brush up on their New Orleans education, there’s good news. Despite the city’s record-breaking number of visitors, it continues to show the love to travel agents.
MORE Destination & Tourism
Once again, the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau is rolling out its “Summer FAM Trips for Travel Professionals” program. And with hotel rooms starting from just $79 per night for qualified travel pros, there’s really no reason to put off your exploration.
“Summer is an excellent time to visit New Orleans,” said Kim Priez, senior vice president of tourism at the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We make it a priority to extend great deals to travel agents during the summer months so they can get a first-hand experience of everything New Orleans has to offer from our world-class cuisine to our music and culture.”
In addition to discounted hotel rates, there’s a VIP Pass for travel agents, which includes discounts and special offers at restaurants, museums, and other city attractions.
Why visit in summer? For one, the city hosts a variety of lively festivals during the season. You’re your travel accordingly and you could experience the Creole Tomato Festival (June 10-11,) the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival (June 24-25,) Satchmo Summerfest (August 3-6) or COOLinary New Orleans, a foodie celebration that runs throughout the month of August.
