The Pulse: Acapulco Unveils Partnership with Virtuoso
Why it Rates: Acapulco’s partnership with Virtuoso is a feather in the destination’s cap, and underscores the city’s tourism renaissance. Over the past several years, private and public investments have resulted in such enhancements to the city as the Mundo Imperial Complex, which includes a forum, resort, expo and promenade. Acapulco has also renovated its iconic landmarks including Diana Circle, Caleta & Caletilla beaches, the Zócalo and La Roqueta. – Claudette Covey, TravelPulse Mexico editor
The legendary resort town of Acapulco has become a commercial partner of Virtuoso, the travel industry’s leading luxury network, as a result of the Mexico Tourism Board’s marketing strategy. Long recognized as an upscale destination for local visitors, Acapulco’s alliance with Virtuoso solidifies the destination’s standing as an international luxury tourism hotspot.
“We are thrilled to be part of such a distinguished e-network,” said Pedro Haces, president of the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office. “Virtuoso is synonymous with the highest industry standards and we are confident that our luxury product, including spas, golf courses, fine dining and attractions will be a great asset to its portfolio.”
Acapulco is home to internationally acclaimed restaurants like Zibu, which fuses Thai and Mexican spices to create unique, delectable dishes, and Tony’s Asian Bistro, which opened approximately two years ago and has held first place on Trip Advisor’s Best Restaurant in Acapulco category for 22 consecutive months. Mizumi, a modern take on sushi at the new Mundo Imperial Resort, is also a standout fine dining option.
Acapulco has a variety of spas, including the renowned Banyan Tree, winner of Trip Advisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards 2014, and Sol Imperial, an oriental paradise that combines Balinese massage with the latest technologies. Visitors can also play a round of golf at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess Golf Course. The sensational 18-hole layout, lined with swaying coconut palms and challenging water hazards, was rated among Golf Digest’s top 25 golf resorts.
For the luxury traveler that enjoys cultural experiences, Acapulco offers city tours and a private tour of the port’s oldest building and museum, the Fort of San Diego (1700s). Luxury tour operators also offer up-close encounters with the famed La Quebrada divers before they leap from cliffs 136 feet above the Pacific waters. Those looking to experience nature can board a luxury yacht for a day of relaxation, snorkeling and diving at Isla Roqueta, a protected natural reserve, and those who prefer to relax aboard a cruise can enjoy an upgraded port, with standardized offshore tours and professionally trained personnel.
