Couples are looking for travel that is more out of the ordinary and are ditching the beach vacation for something a little more adventurous.
“Lately, couples have been forgoing the beaches of Bora Bora and Tahiti in favor of unconventional (read: unforgettable), adventurous getaways off the beaten path,” writes Victoria Lewis for Vogue.
Looking for some ideas? What about trekking to Machu Picchu?
“While many tourists opt for the quick train trip to this iconic Peruvian site, a weeklong trek through rarely traveled highland trails is far more memorable,” she suggests.
You could tour Iceland by bus or you could explore in a more adventurous manner.
“Iceland’s otherworldly landscape is reason enough to make the journey to the island in the North Atlantic. Add to that the chance to ski down to the ocean’s edge on untouched slopes blanketed in many feet of pristine powder and you’ve got an utterly extraordinary trip,” says Lewis.
Right now, the Balkans is one of the hottest travel destinations in Europe and for active newlyweds, trekking through the region is a gorgeous way to celebrate nuptials.
“If an ultra-active trip is up your alley, you might want to consider the 128-mile trek across the stunning Via Dinarica. The 22-day journey will take the two of you across six countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, and Albania,” Lewis recommends.
