For the second consecutive year, the British Virgin Islands will host the BVI Food Fete, a month-long culinary event celebrating the territory’s culinary offerings and experiences. Scheduled to take place from Nov.7-29, the Food Fete is sponsored by the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board (BVITB) and will feature a variety of culinary events and opportunities across the archipelago.
“Our second BVI Food Fete offers a blend of new and signature events that have been curated for epicureans, tastemakers and novice culinary explorers,” said Sharon Flax-Mars, the British Virgin Islands’ director of tourism. “Through our numerous festivities we aim to introduce our guests to our culinary tourism product in a platform that blends discovery and adventure.”
The events will include Taste of Tortola at the recently renovated Queen Elizabeth II Park on Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands. Attendees will enjoy cuisine from top British Virgin Island restaurateurs, chefs and mixologists, while entertainers will provide music and dancing along the water’s edge.
A demonstration kitchen will allow attendees to observe chefs preparing and cooking local and international dishes. A “fish and fungi” competition will highlight the British Virgin Islands’ national dish while a mixologist competition will pit top BVI bartenders against one another as they showcase their talents.
On November 8, a bar crawl will take place on Jost Van Dyke, allowing participants to peruse island bars within walking distance of one another. A “Barefoot Gourmet Soiree" will take place on Nov. 14 at the Peter Island Resort & Spa on Deadman’s Bay and offer guests opportunities to mingle with fellow food connoisseurs and tastemakers.
Featured chefs will include Kristin Sollenne of the Food Network, Antonio Soriano of Argentina, Bastian Falkenroth of Germany and Davide Pugliese of Tortola, plus pastry chefs Gorvey Henry and Erika Dupree Cline of Tortola. Peter Island Resort & Spa chef Todd Howard will also be featured.
An Anegada Lobster Festival will take place on Nov. 28 and 29. The two-day culinary event will feature talented local chefs preparing, cooking and serving lobster dishes at 11 participating Anegada restaurants. Attendees will embark on an island adventure that takes them on a culinary journey via safari, scooter or rental car.
Special ferry ticket prices will be available for ferry transportation from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Tortola and Virgin Gorda to Anegada for Food Fete events. Special rates for hotels and charter yachts will also be available.
