Cancun's Convention Center Undergoes Multi-Million Enhancement
With demand for Cancun meetings and conventions continuing to rise significantly, the destination’s convention center is undergoing a multi-million dollar enhancement designed to upgrade and modernize its facilities.
“The Cancun Center’s renovation will greatly reinforce the destination’s position as a desirable location for meetings and conferences,” said Jesus Almaguer, CEO of the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The center will remain open during the renovations, which began late last year and are scheduled for completion in June 2016.
In 2014, the Cancun Center produced revenues of more than $35 million, which represented a 42 percent increase 2013 revenues. In all, the center welcomed 13,000 meetings and conventions visitors and hosted 12 major conferences.
This year the center is scheduled to host 19 major conference and 23,000 meetings and conventions visitors. It is expected to generate $42 million in revenues.
Sanzport, the company responsible for the center’s original design, is spearheading the project.
The company said design elements focus on the Caribbean’s natural elements with an eye toward contemporary design. Interior meetings spaces and public areas have been upgraded, and appointed with wood and marble accents.
