Carowinds amusement park has teamed up with video game developer PopCap Games and Electronic Arts Inc. to build the world's first "intra-active" 3-D game experience based on the hit series "Plants vs. Zombies."
Scheduled to open in spring 2016, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena will allow players to compete on teams against each other in backyard battles that will feature guests using blasters to shoot screens and score points.
The Plants vs. Zombies "intra-active" experience will use 3-D technology, massive screens, surround sound and motion-based seats to help immerse players in the experience of plants fighting against zombies in their battle for suburbia.
The roughly 3,600-square-foot Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena will include 68 motion-based seats equipped with hand-held laser shooters, two giant screens with independent 5.1 surround sound and a themed retail store.
The official Twitter account of Carowinds shared a sneak peak of the new arena:
Carowinds Vice President and General Manager Mike Fehnel released a statement about the addition of the Plants vs. Zombies-themed attraction:
“Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena is another example of how Carowinds is committed to bringing unique and innovative experiences that the entire family can enjoy together. This wildly popular brand has such a universal appeal and aligns perfectly with our promise to deliver the best day experience ever.”
The Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena will be located in the County Fair section of Carowinds, and the attraction will have the capacity to accommodate between 600-700 people every hour.
