Celebrate 50 Years of the Great Pumpkin at Cedar Point

This is the time of year to write to the Great Pumpkin. On Halloween night, the Great Pumpkin rises out of his pumpkin patch and flies through the air with his bag of toys for all the children! OK, so maybe Linus got his holidays mixed up a little bit, but it’s been 50 years since Linus first told the world about the Great Pumpkin.

“It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” airing tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC, has been a staple in the lives of many children around the world and was one of the first of 50 Peanuts specials that were produced. Cedar Point is celebrating the Great Pumpkin with a huge party every weekend in October with The Great Pumpkin Fest. Now, not only can you watch the beloved special, you can take part in it every weekend at Cedar Point and other parks. We promise, you won’t get any rocks.

Weekends in October mean Halloween fun at Cedar Point. It’s the 20th anniversary of HalloWeekends at the park, and they aren’t playing around with it. The night belongs to the ghouls and goblins as HAUNT rolls through with several huge haunted houses. However, before the fog rolls in, there’s tons of fun at Great Pumpkin Fest for those who aren’t brave enough for the night terrors.

Beginning at 11 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday, little guests can interact and have fun with the Peanuts gang in tons of pint sized activities. There are tractor races, costume contests and yes…even a pumpkin patch.

Here are just a few of the fun things for kids:

Linus’ Mummy Pit: Linus has gathered up all the mummies in the park, and they’re having a huge party! Kids can play in the foam and dance with characters in the park. Think of a bubble bath without the water.

Magic House on Boo Hill: It’s a haunted house Charlie Brown! Well, not exactly, it’s a fun house and it’s full of surprises and fun around every corner. Kids even get a treat at the end — if they make it out!

Woodstocks Corn Stalks: Another Halloween staple is the Corn Maze. Kids can find their way out of the huge cornstalk maze, or just lose mom and dad!

Trick or Treating: The best part of Halloween is Trick or Treating, and Cedar Point has it covered! Kids can go through candy stations for tons of sweet treats, and maybe even meet up with the Peanuts gang who happens to be hiding throughout the area!

The Great Pumpkin Parade: Who doesn’t love a parade? The huge new parade features some of the most iconic characters from the Peanuts specials doing their favorite things. Of course you’ll have Schroeder playing his piano, Snoopy fighting the Red Baron, and it wouldn’t be complete without Linus and Sally waiting in the pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin. The parade is unbelievably cute, and great for the entire family. It’s also an amazing match for Cedar Point, who isn’t known for their huge parades. It’s a great switch up, and refreshing break from the record breaking coasters.

On top of all the other attractions, there are eight different shows and events happening throughout the day. You also have all the fun of kid friendly rides in their massive kids’ area, Planet Snoopy. From driving cars, to escaping from kite eating trees, there’s tons happening between all the other fun. Then, as the sun goes down and the spooks start to play, the lights of over a thousand carved pumpkins shine down to guide you safely home!

Cedar Point has been doing this for 20 years, with the event growing more and more every single year. The Great Pumpkin officially turns 50 on Oct. 27, but why wait? It’s never too soon to get into the fun, and watch the show that has spanned generations. Happy Halloween!
