Film festivals can help add intrigue and interest in a vacation destination, and the island of Aruba will be drawing movie fans by coordinating its fifth annual Aruba International Film Festival (AIFF) from Oct. 7-11.
According to the Aruba Tourism Authority, the film festival has helped the island nation build its reputation with tourists and has received international coverage and acclaim for the event.
Over the last four years, the AIFF has played host to some of the biggest names in movies including Richard Gere, Thelma Schoonmaker, Virginia Madsen and Paul Verhoeven, and 2015 should be no different.
While the AIFF is not traditionally scheduled for October, festival directors wanted to move the dates back in order to introduce its inaugural International Film Market Aruba (IFMA,) the first of its kind in the Caribbean region.
Filmmakers will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to potential buyers at the IFMA, and all parties involved will have the pleasure of mixing business with pleasure as they strike potential deals in the beautiful settings of the island paradise.
Organizers hope that IFMA and AIFF will help draw hundreds of new film tourists to Aruba each year. In addition to the typical screening of short- and feature-length films, the festival will also feature master classes and panel discussions on various filmmaking topics.
