There are holidays for everything nowadays, and one entertaining celebration will take place on Aug. 16 when Americans all across the United States observe National Roller Coaster Day.
To celebrate the roller-coaster inspired holiday, theme parks across the country are offering customer discounts, opening roller coasters earlier than usual and staying open later to allow for more chances to ride and conducting giveaways to pay homage to the thrilling attractions.
One of the largest theme park chains in the United States is Six Flags, and the company will be celebrating the holiday with the more than 130 roller coasters it operates. Customers who visit the parks on National Roller Coaster Day will be treated to special activities inside the parks, discounted admission offers and exclusive ride time benefits.
Part of Six Flags’ promotion is a national contest that allows guests of the amusement parks to vote for Six Flags' "Boldest" roller coaster. Guests will choose between one coaster from each of Six Flags' 11 domestic theme parks, and the winner will be revealed on National Coaster Day.
There is also a giant sweepstakes patrons can enter, with a grand prize of a fly-away vacation to any Six Flags theme park in the United States.
In addition, several major theme parks that work with the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) are offering card-carrying members the first shot to ride the coasters on the holiday and exclusive ride time at night.
Some of the parks involved in the National Roller Coaster Day madness will be Kings Island in Ohio, Martin's Fantasy Island in New York, Arnolds Park in Iowa and many of the Six Flags locations across the United States.
Call your closest amusement park and ask them how they observe the holiday or check out the official homepage for National Roller Coaster Day information.
