A New England tourist attraction since 1963, Ruggles Mine is for sale, The Associated Press reported.

For $2 million, the oldest and largest mine of its kind in the United States can be yours, AP said. Also on the 235-acre New Hampshire property are a gift shop and small museum.

“It’s quite spectacular when you drive up that country road and there's nothing but trees all around,” owner Geraldine Searles said. “And you get to the top of this mountain, and there's a magnificent view."

The mine produced mica and other minerals for 160 years, according to AP. Sam Ruggles found the mine in 1803 and secretly transported mica in the darkness of the night to Portsmouth, where the mineral was then shipped to England and made into ship windows, woodstoves and whale-oil lamps.

Searles' late husband bought the property for $20,000 in 1960, but the couple decided to open it up to the public after the federal government stopped subsidizing the mining industry, AP reported. Thousands of tourists visit the mine between May and October each year to enjoy the views and collect rocks.
