With the summer travel season inching closer, major travel search engine KAYAK launched the summer edition of its 2015 Travel Hacker Guide on Tuesday.
The Travel Hacker Guide this year continues KAYAK’s annual tradition of revealing some of the top summer destinations in the world, but there are a few developments this year that point to a changing travel landscape.
KAYAK’s data scientists analyzed summer searches this year and came up with some noteworthy tidbits of information.
First and foremost, Europe is seeing significant interest for Summer 2015, helped in part by the weakened euro. Flight searches to Europe increased 7 percent on Kayak.com, compared to last summer. On top of that, half of the guide’s Top Trending Summer Destinations reside in Europe, including Milan, Italy; Reykjavik, Iceland; Copenhagen, Denmark; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Madrid, Spain.
The Top Trending Summer Destinations overall include (in order) Kona, Hawaii; Toronto; Hyderabad, India; Milan; and Vancouver. Many of the Top Trending Summer Destinations were boosted by popular summer events, including Toronto (Pan Am Games), Vancouver (Women’s World Cup final), Edinburgh (The Fringe), Copenhagen (Roskilde Festival) and Milan (World Expo).
There are also several exotic destinations offering great deals this summer. Top Summer Deals Destinations include Tel Aviv (22 percent decrease in airfare, year over year), Hyderabad, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Johannesburg.
Of course, there’s nothing like a good ol’ fashioned road trip to celebrate the summer. KAYAK’s Top Summer Road Trip Destinations included Orlando, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver and Las Vegas, among others.
The list took into account the median daily car rental price of destinations. KAYAK advises to travel in June, as gas prices can be expected to rise sharply in July. Orlando’s median daily car rental rate is $33 in June, but it rises to $42 per day in July.
“With the weakened euro making European travel even more accessible, low gas prices and exotic destinations offering deals, this summer is a great time to explore a new place,” said David Solomito, North America brand director for KAYAK, via a release. “The summer edition of the Traveler Hacker Guide was designed with those factors in mind – with the goal of offering information that would be most helpful to travelers.”
The guide also offers advice on how and when to travel certain regions of the world, insights on the best times to book your flight, along with the cheapest days to depart and return.
