Luxury and adventure make for strange bedfellows, but the recent success of Remote Lands to sell out a tour, and quickly, that cost almost $60,000 per person, proves that the combination sells, and well. The epic journey that Remote Lands and Amanresorts have fashioned using private jets across Asia will depart on its second journey next March after its first departure this fall sold out swiftly.
“After our first private jet journey with Amanresorts, which takes place this October, sold out in a matter of weeks, we knew this was an experience and partnership worth extending,” said Catherine Heald, Remote Lands’ co-founder and CEO. The next journey, running from March 6 to 20, will go from one Amanresort to the next in Vietnam (Vinh Hy Bay), Cambodia (Siem Reap), Laos (Luang Prabang), The Philippines (Palawan) and Japan (Tokyo).
Sixteen guests will fly on two Gulfstream private jets and travel in ultra-luxury all the way through. Priced from $58,888 per person double, all touring will be private with each couple having their own private car, driver and guide on each touring day. The group will reassemble at night for cocktail parties and special dinners.
The hotels are at the very top end of the luxury scale, and each stay is accentuated by experiences designed to accentuate the full impact of each destination. The Amanoi overlooks Vinh Hy Bay, just north of Ho Chi Minh City, not far from Nui Chua National Park, an area of more than 29,000 hectares of coastal and marine habitats in Ninh Thuan Province. At Ving Hy Bay the travelers will participate in a Buddhist ceremony and have dinner and cocktails on a cliff above the bay.
The Amansara in Siem Reap, Cambodia sits just outside of the UNESCO rated site of Angkor, where guests can opt for a helicopter aerial tour with a jungle landing and a gourmet picnic. The Amantaka is situated in the UNESCO protected town of Luang Prabang, Laos. In Palawan, home of the Amanpulo, visitors can explore the resort’s private island and snorkel in its waters. In Tokyo they’ll watch Sumo wrestlers practicing up close and personal in their homes, and getting an insider's view of the Asian contemporary art scene in some of the city’s galleries. And those who wish may opt to helicopter to a Lao tribal village so remote that virtually no foreigners have ever set foot anywhere near.
The first Remote Lands Private Jet Journey that sold out ran from Oct. 3 to 20 and will stay at Amanresorts in Beijing, Hangzhou, Thimpu, Paro, Rajasthan, Ranthambore, Galle and Tangalle. That 18-day trip was priced at $57,750 per person double.
