Sandals Resorts will close its recently acquired Sandals Barbados resort on April 1 for a $65 million renovation that will feature the refurbishment of the property's 280 rooms and also add seven new restaurants, among other additions and enhancements. The property will re-open in December of this year, said company officials.

Sandals will transfer existing guest bookings to any of the company's Sandals and Beaches Resorts in Saint Lucia, Jamaica, the Bahamas or Turks and Caicos, excluding Sandals Emerald Bay and Sandals LaSource Grenada. Bookings can also be transferred to the Grand Pineapple Beach Resort in Antigua. The offer includes associated airfare change fees.

"When we acquired this property in August, we knew we were buying great potential; here was a lovely resort that could be transformed into something truly magical," said Gordon "Butch" Stewart, the company's chairman. "The time has now come for the 'Sandalization' to start and drive forward into what is an exciting future for Sandals and Barbados as a destination. We cannot wait to reopen."

The refurbishments will include a new lobby, the addition of a Club Sandals lounge, a departure lounge and an expanded version of the company's Red Lane Spa. A new wedding garden is also planned, along with a swim-up pool bar, fire pits and a beachfront whirlpool.
