St. Petersburg Wins Best Destination at World Travel Awards

The results of the World Travel Awards were announced this week, and the Daily Mail is reporting that St. Petersburg, Russia, has taken the prize as the top destination Europe.
The World Travel Awards are often referred to as the Oscars of the travel industry and are voted on by a jury of international hospitality experts.
There were other winners announced, in addition to best destination, and overall, Portugal was one of the most celebrated countries in Europe at the event.
“Portugal won a number of different accolades, including the best beach destination for the Algarve, the best cruise stop for Lisbon and the best island destination for Madeira,” reports the Daily Mail.
Lufthansa was named was the continent’s leading airline and Norwegian won in the low-cost category.
“Swiss International Air Lines offered the best business class services while British Airways was awarded for its first class offering,” noted the Daily Mail.
Other winning destinations include Lyon, France, for best city break. Zurich won for having the best airport for the 12th year running. Europe’s best hotel was the Ciragan Palace Kempinski Istanbul and the best new hotel was the InterContinental at the O2.
