The Swahili International Tourism Expo (S!TE) opened at the Mlimani City Convention Center in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to promote tourism to Africa. The conference and trade show has been organized by the Tanzanian Tourist Board.
Tanzania’s Vice President Mohamed Gharib Bilal attended the trade show, spoke at the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon to officially open the show.
Terry Dale, president and CEO of the U.S. Tour Operators Association, will be the keynote speaker on the second day of the three-day show, which will run Oct. 1-3.
Nigel Vene Nicoll, the CEO of the African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA) will also be one of 11 speakers at the conference from various countries, including the U.K., China, South Africa and Tanzania.
In a statement, Devota Mdachi, TTB’s acting managing director, said, “Tanzania is honored to have speakers with a high profile in the tourism industry like Terry Dale, an American travel industry expert and influencer, and others join us at S!TE 2015. The U.S. and U.K are already [two] of Tanzania’s most vital markets, and through TTB’s membership in USTOA and ATTA, and especially with Terry Dale and Nicoll’s guidance and support, the U.S. tour operators’ interest in Tanzania has grown tremendously.”
S!TE was launched in 2014. Now in its second year, the trade show is featuring more than 80 exhibitors. Sponsors of the show include South African Airways, South African Tourism, Platinum Safaris and Travel Uganda, Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators, Protea Hotel Group, KLM Airlines, India Tourism Board, Turkish Airlines and Sea Cliff Hotels.
