As travelers prepare for spring break 2016, travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance has found that Orlando and Cancun are the two most popular destinations this year.
Allianz Global Assistance analyzed the bookings of over two million customers between late February and early April, and discovered that Cancun was the top international destination, accounting for 30 percent of trips.
Some of the other popular international locations for spring break 2016 include San Juan, Puerto Rico; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Nassau, Bahamas; London, England; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Aruba Island, Aruba; and Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands.
On the other hand, travelers staying in the United States picked Orlando as the top destination, with other cities such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Denver, San Francisco, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa also receiving many bookings.
Allianz Global Assistance USA director of communications Daniel Durazo released a statement about the spring break research findings:
“No matter if travelers are headed to Mexico, Orlando, Las Vegas or elsewhere for spring break, it’s important to understand that unexpected events do happen and prudent travelers should protect themselves with travel insurance. The right travel insurance policy can provide coverage and assistance for many unforeseen or unexpected events like covered trip cancelations and delays, lost, stolen or delayed luggage, medical emergencies and more.”
