Only 35 percent of Americans plan to go away for their summer vacation.

While that is still a lot of people, it means there are many more summering at home.

If you are staying close by, there are some places that have an advantage over others when it comes to staycationing.

For example, WalletHub notes that New Orleans has the most museums per capita. And New York has the most parks per capita-13.5 times more than Hialeah, Florida, the city with the fewest.

Also, Orlando, Florida, has the most ice cream and frozen yogurt shops per capita (good to know for National Ice Cream Day on July 16). That is 28 times more than in Greensboro, North Carolina, the city with the fewest (i.e. not where you want to be on National Ice Cream Day.)

Which US cities are best for a staycation? Here are the top 10 according to WalletHub's research.

-Orlando, Florida
-Chicago, Illinois
-San Diego, California
-Seattle, Washington
-Tampa, Florida
-Las Vegas, Nevada
-Atlanta, Georgia
-Portland, Oregon
-San Francisco, California
-New York, New York

If you are in any of these places below, you may want to consider taking an actual vacation. WalletHub found these to be the worst staycation cities.

-North Las Vegas, Nevada
-Oakland, California
-Port St. Lucie, Florida
-Hialeah, Florida
-Newark, New Jersey
-Fremont, California
-Santa Ana, California
-Oxnard, California
-Yonkers, New York
-Chula Vista, California

While I'm sure there are reasons for each of these places on the "worst" list, there are sure to be some ways to enjoy each one.

For example, Oakland is right next to San Francisco and is undergoing a bit of a cultural renaissance. Oxnard is just north of Malibu and has some great low-cost accommodations along with its own stunning beaches. Santa Ana is Disneyland-adjacent.

I guess, if you have to staycation at home, even the worst options can be pretty good.
