Websites are being launched, festivals are being planned and exhibitions are taking place - all to honor the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. If visitors are wondering how best to participate, there are more than 60 events that they can take in throughout the year.
There are a number of annual events taking place that will honor the Summer of Love, but specific events will bring the spirit of the original moment in history back to life completely.
Art Exhibitions
Art will play a prominent part in the celebration of the Summer of Love.
At City Hall, visitors can already take in "Jim Marshall's 1967" at the San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries at City Hall or "Hippie Modernism: the Struggle for Utopia," which runs until May 21.
The GLBT History Museum has also debuted "Lavender-Tinted Glasses: A Groovy Gay Look at the Summer of Love."
Summer Tours
Many tour operators have already channeled the spirit of 1967, but there really is no better time to take a tour in honor of this period of time than right now.
One example: San Francisco Love Tours is founded on the principles of peace, love and freedom and takes visitors around by VW "hippie buses" to see "iconic testaments to the human industry as well as the unsurpassed works of art in nature."
Festivals of Love
A number of festivals, both annual and specially dedicated to the Summer of Love, will honor the 50-year anniversary.
Outside Lands, the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, the 41st Annual Union Street Music Festival are just a few of the annual music programs that bring the spirit of the summer of 67 back to the city each year.
Many more festivals will take place in the city that are solely devoted to the anniversary of the phenomenon.
*Through Oct. 1, Summer of Love Street Celebrations will be held by It's Your District.
*In Berkeley, the Telegraph Avenue Summer of Love Street Fair will take place on April 29.
*The annual How Weird Street Faire will honor the "Summer of Weird" on May 7.
*In Marin, the Summer of Love: An Art & Music Experience will take place June 24-25.
This is just a partial list, of course. Many more festivals will take place throughout the city.
Music to Love
It wouldn't be a celebration of the Summer of Love if it wasn't accompanied by music and the litany of performances will not let enthusiasts down.
On June 7, "A Night With Janis Joplin" will take place at the American Conservatory Theatre.

The San Francisco Boy's Choir will perform "Summer of Song" on June 17 and Flower Piano "Summer of Love" Sing-Along will take place at the San Francisco Botanical Garden on July 21, among other events.
