As Labor Day weekend approaches, it could be time to consider taking one last beach vacation, and if you were wondering where to head, Smarter Travel has ranked the world’s best coastal cities to help travelers make a decision.
“While their pristine waterfront location sets them apart from other urban areas, their cultural, economic, and recreational characteristics also contribute to their popularity,” writes Ashley Rossi for Smarter Travel.
The list is compiled from rankings provided by Chicago Line Cruises’ world rankings that use a number of different rankings to determine the best of the best.
The number-one city is Auckland, New Zealand.
“The city is located on the North Island, between two large harbors and on top of a volcanic field, making its views incredible from any spot,” writes Rossi.
Barcelona took the number-two spot.
“As the largest city located along the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is renowned for its coastline and waterfront hotels, clubs, and beaches,” notes Rossi.
Canada’s coastal city of Vancouver is number three on the list.
“The British Columbia seaport is one of the most diverse Canadian cities and wants to be the greenest city in the world by 2020,” says Rossi.
