travAlliancemedia Launches TravelPulse Canada
You told us you needed a better source for travel news, Canada, and we listened.
travAlliancemedia, a North American media company known for its award-winning travel content, has announced the launch of a new Canadian travel website, TravelPulse Canada. The site, which goes live Dec. 2, 2015, features travel content targeted to meet the needs of Canadian travel professionals and their clients.
Company founder and CEO Mark Murphy said the site is born out of a demand he repeatedly heard from Canadian travel professionals while speaking at trade shows and conventions.
“We are building this site in response to a growing demand from the Canadian travel agents already using our products,” Murphy said. "They wanted and deserve a product tailored to their needs, focused on the ever-growing number of travel suppliers and vibrant destinations across Canada."
travAlliancemedia, which operates a variety of print and digital products, including TravelPulse.com, Agent@Home magazine and Vacation Agent magazine, has seen more than 25,000 Canadian agents “cross the border” in search of relevant travel information and training tools.
“Nearly 19,000 Canadian travel agents opted in to start receiving TravelPulse Canada on Day One.” Murphy said. “We have always had tens of thousands of Canadian travel agents looking to receive our newsletters and using our educational products but until now they’ve had to utilize information we’ve crafted for American travel professionals.”
Not anymore. The new site will mirror the look of its parent site, TravelPulse.com, but will focus on news of interest to Canadian agents and travellers, updates from Canadian-based suppliers, and other Canada-specific promotions and offers.
"We have worked hard to build a winning model built on strong reporting from a mix of veteran voices and fresh industry perspectives, and we're excited to bring that same level of energy and commitment to Canada," said TravelPulse editor-in-chief Tim Wood. "We have assembled a talented staff with in-depth knowledge of the Canadian marketplace to begin this next chapter."
The site will have a dedicated editorial team to create Canada-specific news and destination content for the site. After an extensive search, Murphy and Wood named Monica Poling, a veteran travel journalist and native of Moncton, N.B., as Managing Editor to lead the editorial efforts.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to lead this venture and to cover a country that is so near and dear to my heart," Poling said. "I will honour my roots and am so grateful for the warm reception from the Canadian travel community. I hope they can sense that I have a serious case of Canadiana."
While Murphy is grateful for the Canadian audience that has been instrumental in building TravelPulse in the U.S., he said it is time that Canada gets a travel site that speaks to its specific passions.
“Canada is the seventh-largest traveling audience in the world, accounting for more than $34 billion U.S. dollars in expenditures,” said Murphy. “But Canadians travel differently than Americans and this site will speak to the interests and needs of agents and their customers.”
In response to research from Destination Canada, which indicates that nearly two thirds of all travelling Canadians are taking domestic trips, TravelPulse Canada will also feature a robust section dedicated to Canadian travel destinations, a first for travel trade websites in Canada.
“Our mission has always been to provide travel professionals with the tools they need to succeed in business,” said Murphy. “To that end, we are creating this new site to provide our loyal Canadian travel agent readers with more targeted digital products.”
