What do river cruising and the French West Indies have in common? They are two places that Conde Nast Traveler says you should plan to go to right now.
When it comes to river cruising, senior editor Paul Brady tells Conde Nast readers that it’s ideal for those who want to see Europe at a relaxing pace.
“If you want to tick off half a dozen cities in Europe without feeling rushed, river cruises are the way to go (especially if you don’t have a ton of vacation days),” says Brady.
There’s also a ton to choose from.
“You’ll also have your pick of itineraries—smaller rivers like the Elbe and Seine can completely sell out come spring—and first choice of the best cabins on the best lines,” he says.
And for those interested in exploring the Caribbean, Conde Nast features director Alex Postman highly recommends the “forgotten French West Indies.” He recently discovered that budget airline Nowrwegian Airlines flies to Guadeloupe.
“At press time, roundtrip flights a week before Christmas were still under $500. And while upscale hotels are limited, you can get a deal on some sweet villas through Prestige Villa Rentalwhose founder moved back to his native island from—where else — St. Barth’s,” says Postman.
