The National Park Service took to Twitter to share an update Monday:
Washington Monument will remain closed Mon a.m. for repairs to the elevator power supply. We will reopen as soon as repairs are done.— National Mall NPS (@NationalMallNPS) May 15, 2016
This is not the first time elevator issues have caused closures at the Washington Monument in recent months. In April, the elevator inside the monument broke down twice in one week, stranding visitors inside and forcing them to walk down hundreds of stairs.
