March is a good time to take a vacation, writes Ann Vanderhoof for Islands.com. And for those looking to get away, she has several recommendations for where to go — whether it's for St. Patrick’s Day, the Spring Equinox or a late winter festival.
Get to Aruba on March 18 for Flag and Anthem Day.
“A folkloric production takes place at Plaza Betico Croes in Oranjestad, as well as cultural and sporting events around the island,” says Vanderhoof.
If you hurry, you can catch the tail end of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.
“Not only is this the chance for world-class competition, it’s also the time for the biggest nightly after-parties, plus culinary events; however, this is within the island’s peak season, so don't expect a discount on rooms,” says Vanderhoof.

For those looking to head to Ecuador, it’s smooth sailing in the Galapagos during the month of March.
“In the Galapagos Islands off Ecuador, March sees the flattest seas and warmest water. It’s not peak season, so rates are down — but it is the rainy time of year, a bonus if you prefer an in-bloom landscape to an arid one,” Vanderhoof notes.
