When it comes to cruising, the fall is an ideal time to set sail.
Numerous resort locales and destinations throughout Europe have excellent weather, a laidback vibe and a visible lack of the crush of visitors that engulf the region during the summer months.
The Telegraph's destination expert, Sophie Butler, has put together a list of stellar cruises perfect for the fall traveler. Here are some of her suggestions:
Butler starts with a river cruise. Travelers can take in two iconic cities on with Uniworld's the Gems of Northern Italy.
"Italy stays warm well into October, when crowds are thinning, so is one of the best times to visit Venice. This 10-day cruise on the Po aboard the River Countess is unusual in that it also includes Milan," notes Butler.
She also suggests a Rhine river cruise with Emerald Waterways.
"This river cruise winds through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Slovakia, taking in a slew of attractions, including the Rhine Gorge, Budapest and Vienna," says Butler.
Or, how about a couple of different cruises on the Mediterranean?
"When it comes to late-summer Mediterranean sunshine it's worth shopping around for value-added incentives," Butler recommends.

A couple of ideas are P&O Cruises and Royal Caribbean, which offer good value in the Western Mediterranean, including Spain and Italy.
