The destination website is touting a collaborative effort between the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency and Workhere New Zealand, via SFGate. The aim is to lure 100 tech professionals to the city for actual jobs that may be available. So a free trip to New Zealand may turn into a new life in New Zealand.
Posted below is a video that explains the campaign and offers insight from locals who think you mad if you don’t jump at this opportunity.
The website explains that if you are picked, you are getting an amazing trip to the other side of the world.
It explains: “So we’re bringing 100 of the best people we can find to fill 100 great tech jobs right here in Wellington. It’ll be four days of pre-arranged job interviews, meet-ups and exploration, with all flights and accommodation paid for.”
This isn’t some travel prank. You may actually get to stay when all is said and done: “At the end of the week there’ll be offers to jobs you never knew existed in a place with a lifestyle you never thought possible.”
Tech geeks have a rare and wonderful opportunity that starts with considering whether life in New Zealand is for you. Or, if you are the horrible type of person, you can fake interest enough to win a free trip to a beautiful locale.
Everything is paid for except food, beverages and any entertainment you might want to take in while in Wellington. When you are there, you’re obligated to take in the interviews set for you and attend any social mixers planned, so practice all of your best International ice-breakers.
Tech professionals have between now and March 20 to get in your resume and answer some online questions. The cream of the crop will get a trip that will act as a means to dip your toes in Wellington water.
If it feels like home and you knock an interview out of the park, this wondrous place may just be your new home.
