Winter Storm Sparta is moving into the Northeast, once again causing a cold weather travel mess for the region, Weather.com reported.
Beginning early Sunday, snow has tapered off in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio, with some of those states getting half a foot. Icy, dangerous travel conditions around North Carolina up to the Mid Atlantic region, including the Washington D.C. metro area.
Now the Northeast will see precipitation, with parts of Pennsylvania and New York to New England seeing 1-3 inches with 6 inches possible in far southern New England. Snow will continue in New York City into Sunday evening before ending or potentially changing to light rain or light freezing rain. Boston sees snow into Sunday night with a possible 1-3 inches of accumulation. Slick roads and icing are still an issue in the Mid Atlantic states.
Meanwhile, Winter Storm Thor is taking shape in the west, and will be moving through during the week.
The FAA announced a ground stop late afternoon on Sunday for flights arriving at LaGuardia airport due to deteriorating conditions, and they’re not the only airport to grind to a halt. Flightaware.com shows over 3,500 delays, along with over 2,100 cancellations.
As always, check with your airlines for the latest news as the weather system moves through.
